UPDATE TO ACTION ALERT UPDATE December 2002 On December 4th, Rep Tabor attempted to hold a "rally" at the Capitol to push the dove shooting agenda during the lameduck session. High constituent contact from concerned citizens caused "lost votes" to her main legislative priority. Apparently, Tabor's dove shooting group has doubled since October 2001 - around fifty people showed up. Tabor herself counseled activists to arrive in camo or blaze orange and "charge" into Legislators offices as a "force"...an overbearing approach that was not well received. Ironically most were said to be bear hunters or gun rights activists, not dove hunters. While Tabor has tried to play upon unfounded fears and misrepresentations, mainstream traditional hunters oppose dove hunting in Michigan and aren't buying into the fringe element rhetoric. UPDATE TO ACTION ALERT UPDATE June 2002: Dove shooting proponents and dove shooting lawmakers are presently laying low to avoid the "dove issue" until after the primary and general elections are over...waiting for the lameduck session when lawmakers seeking reelection cannot be held accountable in the voting booth. Despite the vast majority of Rep Susan Tabor's [R-District 71] constituents adamantly opposing her legislative priority to reintroduce and push dove shooting legislation, Tabor continues to rudely disregard voters and actively promotes and pursues her special interest agenda (in a variety of numerous ways) with out-of-district/out-of-state dove shooting proponents. Tabor is NOT representing "her neighbors!" UPDATE TO ACTION ALERT October 2001: HUNDREDS of letters have flowed (and continue to flow) into the Governor's office as a result of this action alert. Animal advocates, avid hunters, bird hobbyists, environmentalists, falconers, farmers, kids, wildlife rehabilitators, and the average citizen expressed their strong opposition to ANY future dove shooting legislation and ANY legislation that would take away the voting public's right to accountable legislative representation. Letters continue to be sent to the Governor...it's not too late, please do if you haven't yet...a grateful THANKS to ALL! |
